Korea has been elected as a member of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (Ecosoc) for the 2027-29 term, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday.

It will mark the country's 11th term serving on the Ecosoc, one of the principal bodies of the UN that oversees global discussions on economic, social and development issues and comprises 54 member states, according to the ministry.

The election took place during the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Thursday.

“We will actively participate in discussions on key global challenges, including the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, climate change and digital transformation, while contributing to global efforts to address shared economic, social and development matters,” the Foreign Ministry said in a release.
