Korea JoongAng Daily Privacy Policy

JoongAng Ilbo Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as the "Company") establishes and discloses the following Privacy Policy applicable to the Korea JoongAng Daily service in accordance with Article 30 of the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) to protect the personal information of data subjects and to promptly and effectively address any related grievances.
Article 1 (Purpose of Processing Personal Information)
The Company processes personal information for the following purposes. The personal information being processed will not be used for any purpose other than those specified below. If the purpose of use changes, the Company will take necessary measures, including obtaining separate consent where required under Article 18 of the Personal Information Protection Act.
1. Subscription Application and Management for the Print Newspaper
Applications for subscriptions to the print edition of the Korea JoongAng Daily are made through a separate subscription page. That page provides information regarding the collection, use, provision to third parties and outsourcing of personal information through a separate consent process.

2. Newsletter Subscription and Management
The Company collects and uses the following personal information for subscriptions to Korea JoongAng Daily newsletters.

※ The Korea JoongAng Daily service is not intended for children under the age of 14 and does not separately collect personal information from children under the age of 14.
Article 2 (Retention and Use Period of Personal Information)
The Company processes and retains personal information within the retention and use period prescribed by applicable laws or agreed to by the data subject at the time of collection.
The retention periods for each category of personal information are as follows:
1. Subscription Application and Management for the Print Newspaper
Retention Period: Until termination of the Korea JoongAng Daily subscription agreement (cancellation of subscription)
However, personal information may be retained in the following circumstances:
① Where an investigation or inquiry related to a violation of applicable laws is ongoing: until the completion of such investigation or inquiry.
② Where rights and obligations arising from the subscription relationship remain outstanding: until settlement of the relevant rights and obligations.
2. Provision of Goods or Services (E-commerce Records)
Records retained pursuant to the Act on Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce:
Records related to advertising and labeling: 6 months
Records related to contracts or withdrawal of subscriptions, payments and supply of goods: 5 years
Records related to consumer complaints or dispute resolution: 3 years
3. Communication Confirmation Data
Records retained pursuant to Article 41 of the Enforcement Decree of the Protection of Communications Secrets Act:
Computer communications, internet log records and access tracking data: 3 months
Article 3 (Provision of Personal Information to Third Parties)
The Company processes personal information only within the scope specified in Article 1 (Purpose of Processing Personal Information) and provides personal information to third parties only where permitted under Article 17 of the Personal Information Protection Act, including where the data subject has given consent or where otherwise required by law.

Article 4 (Outsourcing of Personal Information Processing)
To facilitate the efficient processing of personal information, the Company entrusts certain personal information processing activities to the following service providers.

When entering into outsourcing agreements, the Company specifies in written agreements matters required under Article 26 of the Personal Information Protection Act, including restrictions on the processing of personal information beyond the purpose of the outsourced services, technical and administrative safeguards, restrictions on sub-processing, supervision of service providers and liability for damages.
The Company supervises outsourced service providers to ensure that personal information is processed securely.
Should any outsourced services or service providers change, the Company will promptly disclose such changes through this Privacy Policy.
Article 5 (Rights and Obligations of Data Subjects and Legal Representatives and Methods of Exercising Such Rights)
Data subjects may exercise the following rights regarding personal information at any time:
① Request access to and transfer of personal information
② Request correction of personal information where errors exist
③ Request deletion of personal information
④ Request suspension of the processing of personal information
⑤ Object to, and request an explanation regarding, decisions made solely through fully automated processing of personal informationThe rights described above may be exercised by submitting a request to the Company in writing, by telephone, email, facsimile (FAX) or via the internet. The Company will respond without undue delay.
Such rights may also be exercised through a legal representative or an authorized agent. In such cases, a power of attorney in the form prescribed by Appendix Form No. 11 of the Notification on Methods of Processing Personal Information (Notification No. 2020-7) must be submitted.
Requests for access to or suspension of processing personal information may be restricted pursuant to Article 35(4) and Article 37(2) of the Personal Information Protection Act.
Requests for correction or deletion may be denied where the relevant personal information is expressly designated as subject to collection under other applicable laws.
When processing requests for access, correction, deletion or suspension of processing, the Company will verify whether the requester is the data subject or a duly authorized representative.
Article 6 (Procedures and Methods for Destruction of Personal Information)
As a general rule, the Company destroys personal information without delay once the retention period has expired or the purpose of collection and use has been achieved.
The procedures and methods for destruction are as follows:
1. Destruction Procedures
Personal information entered by subscribers for newspaper subscription and related services is transferred to a separate database (or, in the case of paper records, a separate filing system) after the relevant purpose has been fulfilled and is retained for a certain period in accordance with internal policies and applicable laws before being destroyed.
Personal information transferred to a separate database will not be used for any purpose other than retention as required by law.
2. Destruction Methods
Personal information stored in electronic file format is deleted using technical methods that prevent the recovery or reproduction of the records.
Personal information printed on paper is destroyed by shredding or incineration.
Article 7 (Measures to Ensure the Security of Personal Information)
The Company implements the following measures to ensure the security of personal information:
