Destination Defender 2026 proves storied SUV is at home everywhere
The Land Rover Defender continues to build on its brand identity over the last 78 years by pushing boundaries and engaging with customers with experiences that showcase the SUV’s suitability in any environment, from urban streets to mountainous trails and rugged off-road terrain.
The Destination Defender 2026 event in Jincheon, North Chungcheong, from April 17 to 19, now in its fourth year, has become a marquee event for Defender owners beyond a simple driving experience, drawing more attendees each year.
This year featured a re-envisioned off-road driving course that made the most of local topography, with five new courses in various driving environments — from hills to waterways, dirt roads and moguls —added to the off-road experiences this year.
At the heart of the gathering was the recently released Defender OCTA Black, with test drives demonstrating its performance both off-road and on the circuit at Belle Foret International Moto Arena.
The highlight of this year’s event was the expert-led off-road drives in the OCTA Black, offering a glimpse of the vehicle’s capabilities at high speeds on dirt and gravel and while drifting, winning positive feedback from participants.
A track experience allowed participants to push the Defender to the limits on straightaways and in turns, with the SUV capable of going from zero to 100 kilometers per hour (62 miles per hour) in four seconds while maintaining a responsive ride with its suspension.
Land Rover also expanded the brand’s lifestyle image. A “Defender Trophy” challenged participants to execute a J-turn. Carpentry classes, key ring-making classes, cognac tastings and Defender Mini RC races invited attendees of various ages to enjoy the event.
The gathering fostered the Defender community as participants could stay at a campsite and engage with others. Park Eun-yeong, the executive chef of the Chinese restaurant Nuwa in Gangnam District, southern Seoul, put on a cooking demonstration and invited participants to cook prepared kits.
The finale of Destination Defender 2026 featured performances by hip-hop trio Epik High and the singer Punch.
The event unfolded smoothly thanks to the One Care app, which handled everything from booking and signing in for programs to guides about the festivities, expanding the brand’s engagement with customers.
“I could understand the Defender’s various features through the instructor’s explanation. With the off-road driving, I could confidently drive along the course since I could sense the vehicle staying in control in diverse driving circumstances,” one participant said. “Our family really enjoyed the weekend here, having lots of food including gelato, a meal kit and barbecue, not to mention the enjoyable finale.”
As the automobile industry’s competitiveness leans more into customer experience, brands are increasingly sharing their identities with consumers. With Destination Defender, the storied model combined its exclusive heritage and quality in a showcase boasting distinguished experiences that strengthened the foundation of the brand’s identity.
