Education officials practice putting on gas masks during a safety training event at the Gangwon State Office of Education in Chuncheon, Gangwon, on Aug. 18, the first day of the 2026 Ulchi Exercise. The four-day nationwide exercise, which runs through Aug. 21, is designed to test government emergency plans and wartime procedures, with this year’s scenarios addressing evolving threats including war, terrorism, drone attacks and cyberattacks.
