South Gyeongsang residents evacuated due to forest fire

Approximately 200 of residents from six villages of Hapcheon in South Gyeongsang were evacuated due to a severe forest fire.  

The Korea Forest Service on Wednesday raised the emergency level to its highest. This level is triggered when a fire consumes 100 hectares and when the wind velocity is above 7 meters per second.  

Some 33 fire-fighting helicopters, 50 fire trucks and nearly 550 fire fighters were sent to the scene.  

The fire broke out around 2 p.m.
