Boy band Big Bang to mark 20th anniversary with 'Cosmos' media exhibit

Veteran boy band Big Bang will mark its 20th debut anniversary with a media exhibition titled “Cosmos,” its agency YG Entertainment announced on Tuesday. 

Produced in collaboration with the entertainment technology company Creative Mut, “Cosmos” is a two-part media art project that combines a “prequel” and a main show to tell the story of Big Bang’s 20-year history. 

The prequel will open at Lotte World Tower in Songpa District, southern Seoul, and the main exhibition will take place in an underground space between City Hall Station and Euljiro 1-ga Station in Jung District, central Seoul. Operating dates for both exhibitions have not yet been announced. 

The project’s title reflects the concepts of connection, relationships and continuity to demonstrate how “everything that existed in the past and present and will exist in the future,” the agency said. A teaser poster for the exhibition depicts the Big Bang members’ silhouettes using light and shadow rather than showing their faces directly.

Creative Mut previously produced the “Übermensch” media exhibition for band member G-Dragon, which toured 11 cities worldwide and drew a cumulative 250,000 visitors. For “Cosmos,” the company is set to use AI, holograms, virtual reality technology and 3-D motion graphics.

“Cosmos” also marks Creative Mut’s first major undertaking since being selected as the final private operator for the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s project to transform the underground space between City Hall Station and Euljiro 1-ga Station. The site, covering roughly 3,300 square meters (35,520.9 square feet), will operate as a cultural complex under the tentative name “City Hall Station Fun Station - dududo Seoul” (translated).

The prequel at Lotte World Tower will be free to attend, with reservations opening through Naver on Friday. Tickets for the main exhibition will also go on sale through Naver on Aug. 13. More details will be released on Big Bang’s official b.stage platform and the exhibition’s official social media accounts at a later date.

Big Bang debuted in August 2006 with the EP “Big Bang” and currently consists of three members: G-Dragon, Taeyang and Daesung.
