HD Hyundai Chairman Chung Ki-sun emphasized the need for future-oriented decision-making and preparation for a long-term business outlook at a group CEO council meeting on Thursday, held to review business strategies across its affiliates.

The meeting brought together Chung; Vice Chairmen Cho Young-cheul, Cho Seok and Lee Sang-kyun; and the chief executives of 11 affiliates spanning shipbuilding and offshore, energy and construction equipment. It took place at HD Hyundai's Global R&D Center in Pangyo, Gyeonggi.

Executives reviewed first-half earnings, new business initiatives and growth strategies at each affiliate, and discussed second-half plans to navigate uncertainties at home and abroad. The council also reviewed the group's progress on AI adoption and examined safeguards against information security risks tied to the rollout.

“We have had the painful experience of paying a harsh price because we were too fixated on immediate results to read where the market was heading,” Chung said at the meeting. “We will take a lead in building a management environment that can drive sustainable growth with a 10-to-20-year long-term perspective, rather than being consumed by short-term results.”

Chung also told affiliate leaders the group's future goals can only be met once safety is guaranteed, and asked them to make safety management's top priority.
