GM Korea reports nearly 15 percent increase in April sales driven by overseas demand

GM Korea, the Korean unit of General Motors, said Monday that its April sales rose nearly 15 percent from a year earlier, supported by solid overseas demand.

The company sold 47,760 vehicles last month, up 14.7 percent from a year earlier, GM Korea said in a press release.

Exports climbed 16.4 percent to 46,949 units last month, while domestic sales dropped 38.8 percent on-year to 811 units from 1,326 units.

The Chevrolet Trax Crossover SUV led the overseas sales with 31,239 units, followed by the Trailblazer compact SUV with 15,710 units.

The two models accounted for 43 percent of the U.S. compact SUV market last year, with combined sales of 420,000 units.
